I started painting, mainly watercolours and inks, just before Covid, and then found that in the various lockdowns, I had plenty of time to work out what I feel particularly drawn to. It turns out to be rocks by the seaside, the odd bird, and for some reason feet under water. Plus a bit of urban sketching thrown in.
Before arriving in Surrey, I lived in London for 30 years, and I'm originally from the far north of Germany, near the Danish border. I guess I miss those quiet Baltic Sea and fjord beaches. And when I do visit, I notice that there aren't as many crabs and shrimps as there used to be, there are more stinging warm water jellyfish and fewer varieties of seaweed about. I really hope we can turn things around – let's celebrate what we've got while we've got it.
